Axelrod Models and Cultural Transfer between Well-Mixed and Pre-polarised States of Multiplex Networks

Abstract

The Axelrod model provides a useful framework for study of normalisation of cultural traits amongst a network of interacting agents. We formulate an agent-based system with a number of Axelrod-like traits on an interacting set of networks with adjustable coupling. We explore the spatial coupling that might arise in several social and political contexts and present some numerical results for a network of networks, normalising in time from both random, well-mixed initial states as well as in deliberately polarised initial configurations. We employ graph and statistical metrics to characterise the complex emergent behaviour of the model systems developed.
